One Body

One Body

Common Sense people recognize the importance of unity!  They know what a tremendous and powerful effect it would have on the whole world.  Just about 60 years ago I started studying and teaching, pleading for all Christians to believe, obey, and teach the same things.  Most people want this and are willing to work for it to happen.  But, surprising as it may be some do oppose it.  The ones that oppose it the most are preachers (?)—for self-serving reasons!

Oh boy!  Did I ever make some mad with that remark, and I suppose maybe that’s all right if they will apply (Ephesians 4:26) “Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:”  If you become angry, stop and think, and you will see who you should be angry with.

Maybe you have already learned that sometimes division starts over the meaning of just one word.  So today we will examine one word—“body”.  (Ephesians 4:4-6) “4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”

Now remember preachers, whatever the body in this scripture means, God says there is only one!  First, let’s notice something about the body.  (Romans 12:5) “So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.”

We (the people that have been saved) are added to the one body. (Acts 2:47) “Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.”

(1 Corinthians 10:17) “For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.”

Again the scriptures emphasize one body.  (1 Corinthians 12:12) “For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.”

We are all members of that one body.  (Ephesians 5:23) ” For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.”

One question:  What is Christ going to save?  There are other scriptures to prove this, but for people with Common Sense these are enough.  Just to be sure what the “body” is, I’ll leave you with one more.

(Ephesians 1:22-23) “22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,  23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.”

Now that should settle that—one body one church!  The only one that Jesus built and bought with His own blood!

(Acts 20:28) “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.”
